The Power of Again
A little neuroscience, a lot of God's Word, and a fun British accent...
I’m jumping right to the point today, because I started seminary a couple of weeks ago and have a thousand books to read before December 5.
Ok. Maybe only six, a research paper, and lots of other assignments I never had to write as a music performance major…
But you’re going to love this week’s podcast conversation at UnPerfect. Joining me in a thoughtfully engaging conversation about our brains, God’s Word, and the power of “Again,” is Em Tyler. Those of you on Substack are no strangers to her wise and inspirational words, and I’m excited to introduce her to the rest of you today:).
Our thoughts can propel us deeper into spiritual maturity, or they can keep us stuck in repetitive cycles of “stinking thinking.” Like you, I often find myself rehearsing negative thought patterns when I’m dealing with disappointments or challenges.
But as Em reminds us, we have a choice in which thoughts get to play on repeat. By telling ourselves the truth of our stories and of God’s Word, and replacing toxic positivity with biblical hope, we can create new neural pathways and climb out of our pity party into peace and freedom.
Through the power of “again,” Jesus offers an alternative to dwelling on negative thoughts. Let’s surrender them to the one who offers grace upon grace, again and again.
Blessings,
As many of you have requested, I’m attending Western Seminary (Portland, OR) online, with the goal of earning a Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies. We’ll see how the brain cells cooperate and the Lord continues to lead…
