Persistent Prayers
to an un-forgetful God
Most people look at their planner in the morning to map out their day.
(How ordinary.)
Caught up in waves of forgetfulness creativity, I used to wait to look at mine at the end of the day.
The former ShellySnead method of “unperfect” calendar interaction:
Meticulously plan out the week by dividing projects into daily tasks and writing them in the physical planner purchased specifically for this purpose.
Wake up on Monday morning, filled with hopes, dreams, and wonder (see my post on why I love Mondays here), completely forgetting the planner, yet certain you’ll remember the tasks you need to accomplish.
Remember that you actually own a planner, and check it around dinner time to see if you accomplished any of the tasks you wrote there.
Sigh. Move the undone items to Tuesday.
Wake up Tuesday and repeat steps 1-4.
Obviously, this is not a method I recommend to people who actually want to, well, accomplish anything. Thankfully, I’m getting much better at meeting with my calendar in the mornings. Forgetfulness is something I’ve always struggled with (that’s my ADD showing). Add menopause to the mix and my days can begin to incorporate the following questions:
Where did I put my keys?
What did I need from the grocery store?
Why did I walk into this room?
But it’s also something I’m overcoming, one helpful habit at a time.
(Speaking of overcoming, I would love to chat with you about setting up some coaching calls if you feel “stuck” in any areas, or have a desire to see forward movement or changes in your life or personal discipleship. Click below, and I’ll send you more information on Beyond UnPerfect Transformational Life and Discipleship Coaching.)
I’ve spent a lot of time and persistence developing new habits and incorporating new strategies to combat my natural bent toward forgetfulness. Which makes me pause and wonder :
Why do I forget to apply that persistence to my prayer life - the habit with the greatest potential for transformation, power, and missional “success?
My guest on UnPerfect this week (and next) reminded me of this as she shared her incredible story of being orphaned and desperate in Uganda, yet leaning into a hope-filled, mission-driven life.
All because of a God who had not forgotten her. You’re going to love Zahara’s story, heart, and message over the next two weeks on the podcast!
What’s that one thing you’ve “quit on” in your prayer life? How can Luke 18:1-8 encourage you today? I’d love to partner with you in not giving up… Shoot me a reply and let’s keep praying persistently together…
