Dreams On Hold
...Waiting on God...
I’ve never been great at finishing non-fiction books.
And that’s an understatement. I buy them quicker than you can say “Amazon Prime,” but reading them is another matter. Many a book has met its death-by-Shelly somewhere around chapter three or four. Maybe it’s my ADD. Perhaps it’s my loss of brain cells from 24 years of parenting…
Enter 2025.
I’ve read more non-fiction books this year due to my podcast guest list of mainly authors, along with my first semester of seminary classes. And each of these books was powerful, poignant, or practical.
But during a recent trip, when my brain was one theological literary work away from exploding, I took a break and read the first fiction book I’ve enjoyed in quite a while (Stealing Magnolias). What a breath of fresh air!
As I snuggled into seat 18F on the first leg of my trip, I linked lives with the main character, Wren, as she journeyed through a meandering—somewhat bumpy—process of detangling her dreams from others' expectations, complete with a love story and humor—two of my faves! (I highly recommend it.)
This week on the podcast, I interview the author of Stealing Magnolias, who also went through a meandering—often frustrating—process of waiting on God’s timing for her God-given dreams to come to fruition.
Leslie Kirby DeVooght has much to share about God’s enduring presence in our lives as we wait on his timing and his will…
I also had the privilege of partnering with another podcast this week, where I shared some of my “unperfect” story of growing in intimacy with God during a series of life events I like to describe as, “THAT wasn’t in the plan, God!” I hope you’ll check out Grow + Go, because Em Tyler is a wealth of spiritual encouragement and Biblical wisdom! (And she’s fun! Y’all know I love fun!)

Charles Spurgeon once said, “God writes with a pen that never blots, speaks with a tongue that never slips, acts with a hand that never fails.” Sometimes his story takes a bit longer than I’d like. But I can promise you he’s not running late. In my life or yours!
And if you need a little more encouragement in your “waiting season,” I wrote a few words about it in a past blog post here.
How can I pray for you this week as you move from waiting on God to waiting with God?…
